The men’s depots of yore weren’t just stores. They were places to hang out. Chat. Have a coffee. Make a friend.
Which is why we’ve cottoned to Material Good, an emporium on Wooster notable for a rarefied collection of home goods and accessories and — more importantly — impeccable hospitality.
There’s a shearling daybed hung from motorcycle chains. Custom-crafted furniture from Charlotte Perriand and Prouvé. An original Basquiat. Too many museum-quality watches to count. Even a haul of diamonds for your better half.
The kicker: it’s comfortable. They want you to hang out.
So we did. And had a whiskey. Seventeen-year.
Then we went back a week later and did it again. This time a 21-year.
Here’s what else we found.
A Silas Seandel Stainless Steel Coffee Table
A Richard Mille “RM11 Black Phantom” chronograph with annual calendar in ceramic and NTPT carbon. It’s one of 50 ever made.
An Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore chronograph in rose gold and ceramic, along with a custom foosball table.
Original Warhols here and there.
Fred Leighton estate jewels for her.
And a space to host an affair for the ages.
Best thing about one-of-a-kind goods? They’re one of a kind. The rub? They’re one-of-a-kind. No guarantees any of the above will be there tomorrow. So head over there posthaste or follow Material Good’s instagram for updates on their rotating collection of worldly possessions.
