Here’s a little pub factology for you:

For a bar to be a pub, it must serve food. Bad food, usually, but food all the same.

Enter the gastropub, founded in the early ‘90s in the land of the pub (Britain), but with a greater emphasis on quality:

Better food. Better suds. Better pub.

So for this month’s Table Stakes, we surveyed five of the best gastropubs that opened doors over the past month or so.

Casual, trendy, neighborhood spots — each in a different part of town, so your bases are covered should you find yourself outside of your home zip.

Inside:

• Delicious bourbon, microbrews and charcoal-cooked BBQ

• A patio that’s within earshot of the beach
