No matter how deep in the workaday weeds you are, you still need to eat.

Even if that means scarfing down a sandwich with one hand on an Excel sheet and a phone wedged between your head and shoulder.

So for this edition of the Book of Sandwich, we’ve compiled the best L.A. spots for grabbing a tasty sandwich on the fly — aka the grab ‘n’ go.

Little Dom’s Deli: Cold Fried Chicken
Los Feliz

Few things carry as well as cold fried chicken. Lil’ Dom’s puts theirs on ciabatta with sun-dried tomato pesto (because fresh tomato will make any sandwich soggy).

Erven: PB&J
Santa Monica

Laugh all you want, but this PB&J — made with roasted grape jam and tarragon salt and slathered on pillowy roll — is perhaps the best adult version of a childhood classic ever conceived.

Pitchoun Bakery: The Atlantic
Downtown

For a sandwich to last in the fridge, it has to be built with items that don’t hold much water. Pitchoun’s Atlantic is made with fresh Atlantic salmon, thinly sliced hard-boiled eggs, arugula, radishes and lemon zest on a baguette — all things that’ll keep their integrity throughout the day.

Gwen: Weekday Sandwich
Hollywood

Yeah, we mentioned it last time around. But I challenge you to find me a better charcuterie with basil burrata on fresh baked stecca (olive oil baguette) in Hollywood — and have it ready for me when I walk in.

Esters: Vedge
Santa Monica

Esters Wine Shop just started serving lunch, and while we’d sit for a hot sandwich and a glass of vino under normal circumstances, we can’t, because we’re too damn busy. The Vedge in the fridge will do the trick. Pickled sunchokes, fennel, carrots, cucs and goat cheese on Milo and Olive whole grain bread: this definitely is not your average veggie sandwich. Plus you just got six servings of veggies in one meal. Feel good about that.

Bay Cities Italian Deli: The Godmother
Santa Monica

L.A.’s most notorious sandwich is in a basket waiting for you. Just grab it at the deli counter.
