To be forthright, we’re suckers for a little camp.
So when the rumor mill was spinning (again) that a VW bus might come back into production, our ears perked up.
At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, VW designer Oliver Stefani said, “We would like to bring [the bus] back because it fits so well to what the brand stands for: it’s emotional, it has functionality, it makes your life easier.”
Easier on the eyes, amirite?
And now, our silly, four-wheeled, acid flashback-fueled dream has come true.
Volkswagen’s Herbert Diess just let on to the UK Auto Express that the legendary Microbus is indeed confirmed to hit the line.
Based on their ID Buzz concept car which showed at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show, said, “Emotional cars are very important for the brand. We are selling loads of Beetles still, particularly in U.S. markets. But we will also have the Microbus that we showed, which we have recently decided we will build.”
Preliminarily, what we can expect is a whole lot of interior space due to the fact that EVs don’t need that engine up in front. And it will certainly have throwback appeal with a retro two-tone polish. The only thing that’s really changing is that they’ll likely start when you want them to this time around.
Priced right, they’ll sell like grilled cheese at a Dead show.
