Price of the Solaris Global Cruiser: $32.6 million.
Tax bill for the solar-powered yacht: $6.5 million.
Never queuing up for superyacht fuel again: Priceless.
Built to provide its owner with a fuel-free life at sea, the Solaris Global Cruiser from Duffy London is a 144-foot yacht that uses solar energy to power an electric thrusting system that gives the 5,200-HP vessel a cruising speed of 28 knots and a silent top speed of 45 knots.
With a composite hull and superstructure, the lightweight Solaris will use its six engines to generate speed, while auxiliary turbine generators running on alcohol can extend sailing distance and boost power. The Solaris will have enough room for 17 people to spread out across its five cabins, and also employ the latest in solar panel and battery technology to produce freshwater and deal with waste.
“Living in an environmentally friendly way and leaving as small a carbon footprint as possible is not only possible,” says Duffy London on their site. “It can also be luxurious, inspirational and provide a level of freedom and independence that fossil fuels never could.”
You have until 2020, when the Solaris is completed, to save up. And hey, at least shipping is free.
