Highlights From the Upcoming Aston Martin Sale at Bonhams

The Aston Martin DB series is indelibly linked to the James Bond franchise. Ever since the DB5’s wheels first hit the road in Goldfinger, the car has been a favorite with movie fans and high-end collectors.

As they often do, Bonhams has curated its own, elegant lineup of Aston Martins—as well as a laundry list of related ephemera, hood ornaments, toy models, and autographed Bond memorabilia—for its May 13 Aston Martin Sale. The auction takes place in Newport Pagnell, England, at the home of the luxury automaker, Aston Martin Works.

Among the highlights are a blue 1964 DB5 Sports Saloon, just like the one that Sean Connery piloted in Goldfinger, but sans all the deadly gadgets (this actual car’s first owner was an Albert J. Ross, Esquire, of Glasgow, Scotland; we wonder if he saw the movie starring the world’s most famous Scotsman and decided to acquire one for himself). The car has an estimated hammer price of $650,000–$780,000.

Also included in the lot is a 1981 V8 Vantage owned by British actor Rowan Atkinson—better known to American audiences as Mr. Bean. (A pre-auction estimate of $190,000–$230,000 has been set for the car.)
