Stealing a page from The Matrix‘s script or the comic book world, engineers and scientists at BAE Systems and the University of Glasgow have presented a concept that involves growing small military drones—or Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs)—in vats of chemicals. And they say it will be ready in this century. The technology will all be available via a high-tech “Chemputer” machine, which would employ advanced chemical reactions to speed up the “evolutionary” growth process, producing UAVs at lightning speed, tailored to specific missions.
