When Ferrari rolled out the limited-production LaFerrari in 2013, they gave us 499 reasons to love ‘em.
Today, we’ve got reason no. 500.
In order to raise money for victims of the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that devastated Italy last month, Ferrari will violate its self-imposed production limit and build one last LaFerrari.
The decision was announced by company chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne following a summit between the Italian and German governments that took place at Ferrari headquarters.
“The 500th LaFerrari of this limited edition series, the first hybrid supercar by the Prancing Horse, will be sold at auction to benefit the people of central Italy affected by the earthquake of the 24th of August,” Ferrari said in a release.
Like its 499 brothers, the 500th LaFerrari will have a V-12 mated with a pair of electric motors and a seven-speed transmission packing 950 ponies that lend it a top speed of over 217 MPH.
And while winning the auction — which has not yet received a time or date — will be tough as nails, it may be substantially easier than securing one of the LaFerraris that have already been built.
