I’ve argued this before: Valentine’s Day is not Christmas II or Birthday Redux.
You should (but probably won’t) ignore the overpriced prix fixe V-Day menus and an overabundance of gifts. Certainly don’t propose or get married on the Hallmark-iest of holidays — a nice piece of not legally-binding jewelry, a weekend trip and/or a home-cooked meal should suffice for romance.
But do get flowers. You should really be doing that every few months anyway, but flowers fulfill the basic holiday requirements while still proving that you gave your relationship some thought … as long as you go beyond the usual dozen roses and figure out what kind your partner actually prefers.
Oh, and order them now. You won’t be stuck at the florist (or, ugh, supermarket) on Feb. 14 going through second-tier roses, and you’ll actually get a good deal by thinking about your loved one well in advance. Also, you’ll have a better chance to pick and time a day to deliver that fits your needs.
We’ll be updating this, but these are the best current deals on flowers by online florists that we use and trust:
1800flowers: These deals have been changing a lot, but 1800 is currently offering up to 40% off V-Day flowers and gifts, and a separate 25% off bouquets with the code LOVEEARLY.
The Bouqs: A go-to flowers choice for us for years, these great farm-to-table bouquets are perfect for Valentine’s Day…and they’re offering $20 off with the code refresh20. Flower subscriptions (no code needed) also net you free delivery and a 20% savings, plus earn you bonus points for getting flowers outside of a mandated holiday period.
ProFlowers: With some exceptions, you can grab 20% off if you order today.
Teleflora: Save 20% on the Deal of the Day (use the code AFLS1914), where a local floral designer will create a flower arrangement for you — which you can tailor for V-Day or any occasion of your choosing.
FTD: There are a couple of small, random discounts on the site, but if you click through RetailMeNot to the site, you can save 20% off.
