Driving on ice: an exercise in patience, caution, and frustration.
Careening around icy racetracks at 200 mph in a luxury supercar: an exercise in … well, the complete opposite of that.
For the latter, we introduce the Bentley Motors Power on Ice, booking now for February.
Sponsored by Bentley themselves, this is a three-night, four-day driving excursion into the world of extreme ice driving.
You’ll be driving in style: The ice excursions take place outside the Chalet Ruka Peak resort outside Finland’s Arctic Circle, where luxury penthouses come complete with private saunas and panoramic views of the surrounding snow valleys and wildlife.
But you’re not here for elk watching.
Once you leave the resort, you’ll be chauffeured to the area’s specially prepped ice tracks, designed by Juha Kankkunen, an ice speed record holder and World Car Rally Champion.
From there, you’ll be placed with an instructor in a Continental GT or Flying Spur. You’ll spend your day in a series of adrenalized exercises, from slalom driving to emergency avoidance, while zipping your all-wheel-drive super coupes through a series of loops, curves, and figure eights.
When you’re done spinning your wheels, you’ll be whisked on a series of non-driving adventures, including a husky sled safari, snowmobiling, and drinks/dinner at a reindeer farm. You’ll even take part in a traditional shaman ceremony.
Given the course, a little spiritual guidance couldn’t hurt.
