The high seas are supposed to be about discovery – hence the Shark Boat, on which you discover the uncharted waters of New York Harbor and its indigenous species, the seafaring NASCAR fan.
Avoid those farmer-tanned masses with Atlantic Yachting, which offers fully customizable private sailing charters of Manhattan’s waters beginning May 1st.
Their vessel: “Go Lightly”, a 42-foot, lean-lined sloop that comfortably holds six and boasts a teak-lined cockpit, mahogany interior, and fully-equipped kitchen.
Ms. Go Lightly departs from the 79th St. Boat Basin at any hour of your choosing, accommodating any occasion from a Saturday afternoon jaunt to a midnight cruise. Bring whatever food and drink you like, and the two-man crew will serve it as you ply the river, your iPod playing on the sound system.
Chart your own course – south to glide directly underneath the Statue of Liberty, or north to take in Palisades State Park, stopping to take in the view anywhere you wish.
Atlantic Yachting also offers a kids summer camp and sailing lessons, during which the captain will teach you how to trim sails, tie knots, and navigate using the vessel’s nautical charts and maps.
Just beware the area reading “here there be monsters”. That’s Jersey.
